15th December 2010

Today we decided to film the catwalk scene and yesterday we filmed kathryn in the closet for the performance. This means that all our filming is now complete so we just have to upload and edit this so it can be completed. Now our main focus is editing!!

Changes!!

We have had to make a number of changes to our music video, one of these changes is that the person that we had be planning to have as our main star (Lucy Star), couldn’t do it as she went camera shy, so because of this Kathryn agreeded to step up and be the star of the music video. This is because our character hates fake girls and i had dyed my hair blonde last night!! Because of this we had to change the sequence of the cat walk scene so just me and Kirstie are now models.

3rd December 2010

As we thought school has been shut all week!!

No filming done

Tuesday 30 November 2010

30th November 2010

Today is a totally different story, as it snowed through the night and in the morning, it was unsure if school was going to open. It did open, but I didnt get in however, for safety reasons they closed to school at 11, so the double media lesson was missed, where we would have started to edit what we filmed on Monday.
As a group with a deadline looming just around the corner we are really worried that school will be closed for the rest of the week. We still need to film another part of our music video and edit it, and we have less the 3 weeks to do so.

30th November 2010

today after school we filmed the entire cat walk scene after school, using one of the drama rooms, we made sure to get enough footage for our music video. However if we haven’t we can always re-shoot. I personally feel that it went very well and smoothly! this is good for us as we filmed all of it and we have filmed more than enough to cut and chop bits if needed. We filmed in just over 2 hours and also took still shots on my camera which i have put in a folder on facebook so the girls can take them.

Sunday 28 November 2010

28th November 2010

We have figured out what the filming situation is for Friday the 26th November. Originally we were going to use a charity shop, however we are not now. Lauren came up with the idea of filming in the costume room in Drama, as it is full of lots of different types of clothing.

As a group we thought that this was a really good idea, it also meant that we didn’t have to limit our self to a time period like we would have if we had one to charity shop.

At break we went over to drama and asked about using the costume room during the day on Friday, when we have a free space in our timetable. It was all okayed and we plan on filming on Friday.

After school today we went up Bexleyheath to get some bits and bobs for the music video. What we got was some silver spray paint and tinsel for the cloning machine which kathryn will be making over the weekend. We also got our costumes that we will be wearing as the cloned models.

So far everything is going really well and hopefully we can start editing next week, so that if we do have to re-shot anything we will have time to do so

26th November 2010

Today has been a bad day for us as a group as we were meant to film, but Kathryn was the only one in and was unable to do it all herself . Laruen and Kirstie were on a film trip to the BFI libary for their film studies coursework and i was at home ill :(. So now we are going to have to move the filming of the performance part next week, when we film everything else too, but this cant be helped people get ill and more than one coursework deadline comes at once.

23rd November 2010

Today in the lesson we went over our storyboard and had to add some more clips in to make it work better and look more like an actuall music video. We added in about 30 more shots and its already starting to look better.

Monday 22 November 2010

22nd November 2010

We are hoping to film part of our music video at the end of the week, as the deadline is coming up quickly. We are also filming on the week on the 29th the catwalk scene.

Planning For Digipack

For our artist we have to create a digipack for them to sell with the single that we are making a music video for on it. Here is a flat plan of what the digipack that I will be making looks like.
I have decided to go for a 6 panel digipack, as it will include a booklet, CD and DVD inside. I also decided to go with having jewel cases for the disks to go in, as I see that it will offer better protection for the disks then if it was just in a sleeve.
The digipack will contain all the typical codes and conventions that digipacks have. So on the back will be the list of songs, containing a bonus song, a barcode, the record label info.
On the front of the digipack there will be an image of the artist and her name Lucy Star, including a sticker which gives the customer a brief look to what they can expect from this digipack.
The CD will contain all the songs that she has recorded, plus a bonus song.
The DVD will contain things such as interviews, behind the scenes of the music video and her in the recording studio and clips from her time as an x – factor contestant.
On the inside panel it will contain Lucy Stars motto in life, " be who you wnat to be not what society tells you be" to help try and get it across to the rest of the world.
The booklet will contain information about all of the songs on the album and a list of thanks to people.

Thursday 18 November 2010

18th November 2010

Today during the lesson we was looking at a number of different digi packs, we then created our own one. All four of us created our own individual one although they ended up looking quite similar. This was an interesting process seeing how the digi packs come together. We then put our paper ideas onto the computer using photoshop.

Our Idea And Andrew Goodwin Theory

A criticism of our pitch was that we should link our idea to the music video theory by Andrew Goodwin.

1) "Music video's demonstrate genre characteristics." The first setting of our video is in a Charity shop, this shows the type of shops that Lucy Star prefers and would typically shop in. The second shows her creating havoc on the catwalk by rebelling against the 'clones'. This shows that she is against people copying one another and following the crowd of mainstream fashion, showing her with a care-free personality and not worrying what other think of her.

2) "There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals." In the charity shop and on the catwalk shows Lucy Star doing what she wants to do, just enjoying herself and having an enjoyable time, "Girl's Just Want To Have Fun."

Our Group Feedback

Our group pitched to the class today with the powerpoint previously posted on my blog. Below are parts that worked, didn't work and just suggestions that the class made. Each group had a sheet to write feedback on and we have collected it and wrote it below;

Parts the class thought were good/appropriate;
-Characters well planned
-2 easy locations
-Shows Lucy’s identity
-The changing room scene
-Song matches her characterises
-Clever idea about cloning machine
-80’s style for artist

Things they think we should develop or change;
-Confusing storyboard (Too simple)
-Think about the way you have used media language and link to Goodwin’s theory
-Need to find charity shop
-How are you doing the catwalk
-How would you film in the charity shop

Elements they think need more work on;
-Do you have permission for a charity shop
-How will the catwalk be shot and made

19th October 2010

Today in the lesson we started to put together our storyboard so that the next stage for us would be to follow this to film our music video. We then made this into an animatic and uploaded it to our blogs. From doing this we can easily plan out how to shoot our music video so that it runs smoothly. This does not have to be exactly how we film it but its a start!

Tuesday 12 October 2010

12th October 2010

Today in the lesson we began making our mood board, to put together all of our ideas for our music video.
Our idea is a fashion show catwalk scene. This will connotate how people are "cloned" to all look similar in today's society by the fashion industry.
It will show a contrast, with our artist 'Lucy Star' she will be uniquely dressed, and the complete opposite to the streotype's in the catwalk scene.
The mood board contains photo's of 'Wag' like characters dressed similarly to each other in contrast to the photo's of Lucy Star's style (punk, pop, eccentric.)
We thought this would be suitable because our artist 'Lucy Star' is such an eccentric and unique character that we wanted to show the contrast between her and what is expected of us in society today as young women .

Human Nature

Gondry was born in Versailles, France. He is the grandson of inventor Constant Martin. He has a teenage son named Paul who is also an artist.

His career as a filmmaker began with creating music videos for the French rock band Oui Oui, in which he also served as a drummer. The style of his videos for Oui Oui caught the attention of music artist Björk, who asked him to direct the video for her song "Human Behaviour". The collaboration proved long-lasting, with Gondry directing a total of seven music videos for Björk. Other artists who have collaborated with Gondry on more than one occasion include Daft Punk, The White Stripes, The Chemical Brothers, The Vines, Steriogram, Radiohead, and Beck. Gondry has also created numerous television commercials. He pioneered the "bullet time" technique later adapted in The Matrix,in a 1998 commercial for Smirnoff vodka, as well as directing a trio of inventive holiday-themed advertisements for clothing retailer Gap, Incorporated.

Digipaks

Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside. Since Digipaks were among the first alternatives to jewel cases to be used by major record companies, and because there is no other common name for Digipak-style packaging made by other companies, the term digipak or Digi-Pak is often used generically, even when the media holder is a hub or "Soft Spot" rather than a full plastic tray.

Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and the tall DVD Digipak (DVDigipak) is used as a premium package for DVDs and DVD sets. Because such packaging is less resistant to abrasion than jewel cases, it tends to show signs of wear relatively quickly. Licensed digipak manufacturers such as domestic U.S. printer and disc replicator Oasis Disc Manufacturing recommend coating the raw printed paper with a protective UV coating, thus ensuring greater longevity.

Although less vulnerable to cracking than a jewel case, the disc tray inside the package (particularly the "teeth" of the hub which secure the disc in place) remains rather brittle and is prone to cracking if the package is crushed. Digipak-style cases grew in popularity among record labels and recording artists in the early 2000s.

Manufacturers have sought to reduce environmental impact and improve functionality by introducing recycled components into its trays; one has announced a 100% post-consumer PET tray made from recycled bottles, which also eliminates the need for the brittle "teeth". Many printers use recycled or sustainable material for the board stock.

Historically, Digipak was only available in large quantities. However, AGI has recently introduced a new product called digipak i-create for the consumer market. Digipak i-create is a web-supported concept that is aimed at the download, music, photo and creative markets.

GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN - CYNDI LAUPER

I come home in the morning light,
My mother says "When you gonna live your life right?"
Oh,mother,dear,
We're not the fortunate ones,
And girls,
They wanna have fu-un.
Oh,girls,
Just wanna have fun.

The phone rings in the middle of the night,
My father yells "What you gonna do with your life?"
Oh,daddy,dear,
You know you're still number one,
But girls,
They wanna have fu-un,
Oh,girls,just wanna have
That's all they really want.....
Some fun....

When the working day is done,
Oh,girls,
They wanna have fu-un,
Oh,girls,
Just wanna have fun....

Girls,
They want,
Wanna have fun.
Girls,
Wanna have

Some boys take a beautiful girl,
And hide her away from the rest of the world.
I wanna be the one to walk in the sun.
Oh,girls,
They wanna have fu-un.
Oh,girls,
Just wanna have
That's all they really want.....
Some fun....

When the working day is done,
Oh,girls,
They wanna have fu-un.
Oh,girls,
Just wanna have fun...

Girls,
They want,
Wanna have fun.
Girls,
Wanna have.

They just wanna,
They just wanna.....
They just wanna,
(Oh....)
They just wanna.....
(Girls just wanna have fun...)
Oh...

Girls just wanna have fu-un...
They just wanna,
They just wanna....
They just wanna,
They just wanna....
(Oh...)
They just wanna...
(They just wanna have fun...)
Girls just wanna have fu-un...

When the working day is done.

They just wanna,
They just wanna....
They just wanna,
They just wanna have fun...

Girls just wanna have fu-un..

Music Videos

A music video is a short film or video that accompanies a piece of music. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos date back much further, they came into prominence in the 1980s, when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 80s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip" or "film clip". In Chinese entertainment, music videos were simply known as "MTVs" because the network was responsible for bringing music videos to popularity in that country.

Music videos use a wide range of styles of film making techniques, including animation, live action filming, documentaries, and non-narrative approaches such as abstract film. Some music videos blend different styles, such as animation and live action. Many music videos do not interpret images from the song's lyrics, making it less literal than expected.

the codes and conventions can be divided into two seperate categories, Technical and Symbolic.

Technical;
- how equiptment and technolgy are used to construct meaning
- camera - different angles, shots
- editting - pace, style
- sound - diagetic/ non diagetic, genre

Cheryl Cole - In Girls Aloud

The group's debut single "Sound of the Underground" peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the 2002 Christmas number one. Girls Aloud hold the record for the shortest time between formation and reaching number one. The group released their debut album, Sound of the Underground in May 2003, which entered the charts at number two and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry later the same year.

Since 2003, Girls Aloud have released twenty additional singles, with all but one charting within the top ten, and fifteen reaching the top five. Their singles "I'll Stand by You", "Walk This Way", and "The Promise" have charted at number one. Two of their albums have reached the top of the UK Album Chart; their greatest hits album The Sound of Girls Aloud and 2008's Out of Control, both of which entered the chart at number one, with over one million copies of the former being sold. All their albums are certified platinum.[citation needed] They have been nominated for five BRIT Awards, and in 2009 won Best British Single at that year's BRIT Awards for "The Promise".

Girls Aloud have become one of the few UK reality television acts to achieve continued success, and had amassed a fortune of £25 million by May 2009. The 2007 edition of Guinness World Records listed them as "Most Successful Reality TV Group", while they also hold the record for "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group" in the 2008 edition. The band have been working with Xenomania, who produce all of their material, since the start of their careers. The group has sold ten million records worldwide.

In July 2009, Girls Aloud announced they would partake in a year-long hiatus to pursue solo projects, but would reunite for a new studio album in 2010. The hiatus has since passed the twelve-month mark with little news from the band. On 30 August 2010, bandmate Nicola Roberts told British media that she wasn't anticipating a reunion of the band until 2012.
